Welcome to Lakes State's official website!

As Governor of this vibrant and diverse region, I am honoured to welcome all our visitors, residents, and friends warmly. Lakes State, occupying approximately 40,235 square kilometres within the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region, is a land of rich culture, tradition, and opportunity. Bordered by Unity, Warrap, Jonglei, and Western and Central Equatoria States, we are composed of eight counties: Cuiebet, Rumbek North, Rumbek Central, Rumbek East, Yirol West, Yirol East, Awerial, and Wulu, with Rumbek as our state capital.
Upon taking office, I made it my mission to address the security challenges that had long plagued our state. The situation was precarious, with communal conflicts, cattle raids, revenge killings, armed robbery, and extortion posing significant threats to peace and stability. Today, I am proud to report that Lakes State is relatively calm, with law and order restored, thanks to our government's concerted efforts and our citizens' cooperation.
Our achievements include recovering stolen cattle, establishing special courts to try perpetrators, and disarming civilians involved in violence. One of our most significant milestones was the historic outlawing of early and forced marriage in July 2022, a move aimed at protecting our girls' education and securing their future. This law, enacted by our state parliament, reflects our commitment to ending harmful cultural practices and empowering our youth.
Education remains a cornerstone of our development strategy. We are committed to providing free basic education and ensuring that our children, particularly girls, are not hindered by outdated customs. Our efforts have been recognized nationally and internationally, with awards for our work in peace, security, education, and institutional development.
Despite our progress, we continue to face security challenges in some areas. I appeal to my fellow state governors and chief administrators to join us in promoting peace, unity, and reconciliation. Together, we can build a brighter future for all our people.
Our people's support has been overwhelming, and I am grateful for the trust and cooperation that have made our achievements possible.
Thank you for visiting our website. I encourage you to explore our rich history, learn about our ongoing projects, and stay informed about the latest developments in Lakes State. We will continue building a peaceful, prosperous, and united community.

Warm regards,
Hon. Rin Tueny Mabor
Governor of Lakes State
